$25 billion worth of crypto at risk according to researchers

Blockchain security is of great concern as it can have vulnerabilities that can compromise the integrity of the technology. Cybersecurity firm Halborn recently warned of a vulnerability dubbed “Rab13s” that could put at least $25 billion worth of crypto at risk.

In this article, we discuss what this vulnerability entails and how it can compromise the security of blockchain technology.

Halborn warns: $25 billion worth of crypto at risk

Cybersecurity firm Halborn warns of a vulnerability dubbed “Rab13s” that could put at least $25 billion worth of crypto at risk. More than 280 blockchain networks are vulnerable to “zero-dayexploits, where the vulnerability affects not only Dogecoin, Zcash and Litecoin, but other networks as well.

Halborn has identified three vulnerabilities, with the “most critical” allowing an attacker to take down individual nodes by sending manipulated malicious consensus messages. Other zero-day vulnerabilities would allow would-be attackers to crash blockchain nodes by sending Remote Procedure Call (RPC) requests.

Not all vulnerabilities are exploitable on all networks, but at least one of them can be exploited on every network. Dogecoin, Zcash and Litecoin have already deployed patches for the discovered vulnerabilities, but hundreds of other networks could still be exposed.

Risk awareness is important

It is important for all users of blockchain technology to be aware of these vulnerabilities and take the necessary measures to protect their systems. It is also important for companies involved in blockchain technology to ensure that their systems are adequately protected against these vulnerabilities. By being alert and taking the right security measures, we can mitigate the risks of these vulnerabilities and ensure the safety of the blockchain technology.

Unfortunately, hacks are still quite common in crypto. Usually, however, an application built on the blockchain is affected, not the base layer of a network as described above. Recently it was read in the crypto news that hackers managed to make a lot less loot.
