Fastned is building the first charging stations with a service area in Europe

Fastned will start in 2024 with the construction of two large charging stations that will be built on either side of the E17 in Gentbrugge near Ghent. The large fast charging stations will each have 12 charging points. That in itself is not very exciting. What makes it more interesting is the fact that they will be the first large charging stations in Europe with a number of facilities that you also encounter at large petrol stations along the highway. The two fast charging stations will be equipped with picnic areas, playgrounds, sanitary facilities and even one or more shops. This means that you can drink a cup of coffee while charging your electric car, but you can also make a sanitary stop or eat a sandwich. In any order, of course. According to Fastned, up to a thousand EVs can bring in up to 300 kilometers of fresh range in 15 minutes at each station every day. The two stations will therefore only receive 400 kW fast chargers. Fastned indicates that the two stations are the first fast charging stations with a service area. But certainly not the last. Fastned says it will continue to tender for similar tenders.
