Carlos Tavares, the CEO of the Stellantis group, has revealed during a visit to the Cassino factory in southern Italy that the production facility will build larger electric cars in the not too distant future. These are cars that will be placed on the group’s new STLA Large platform. This offers space for battery packs that should enable a driving range of up to 800 kilometers. Cars that will be placed on that platform may be the successors to the Alfa Romeo’s Giulia and Stelvio, but possibly also larger electric models from Lancia and DS. After all, Lancia is also preparing for a resurrection, in which it will come with a new Aurelia. The Maserati Grecale Folgore, the electric variant of the already existing Grecale, will not roll out of that factory. That car is on a different platform, and from Tavares’ words we think we can conclude that all cars that will soon roll out of Cassino are STLA-based products. When the factory will be converted is still unclear. The Giulia and Stelvio have been around for a while and will therefore not get in the way of the plans for too long. In any case, Alfa Romeo only wants to build electric cars from 2027. Should the conversion take place soon, it means that the Maserati Grecale production will be moved. Another option is that it will take some time before Cassino is renovated, because Tavares indicates that the products that will be manufactured there in the future have not yet been revealed. Still: DS must be fully electric from 2024, Lancia from 2026 as well. So we expect a lot of news from the Stellantis tube. More Alphas? Multiple Lancias? A big electric DS? What kind of large electric model would you like to see from one of the Stellantis brands?
