the renewed Alfa Romeo Giulia facelift

The Alfa Romeo Giulia has been subtly facelifted. The news is not very big, but it is enough reason for us to put together one of the nicest sedans to our own taste.

Alfa Romeo is working on expanding the model range, but in the tradition of the brand, those new models will have to wait a while. The Tonale was recently introduced – and is off to a successful start. Meanwhile, the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are kept warm with a subtle facelift. A good excuse to take a closer look at one of our favorite sedans. We take a dive into the price list and put it together according to your wishes.

Alfa Romeo Giulia facelift

As mentioned, the facelift is not very drastic. For the exterior, we mainly see new light units, with new LED daytime running lights at the front and smoked glass at the rear. Also new are dynamic turn signals. The main changes in the interior are the introduction of a digital instrument panel and an improved infotainment with a larger touchscreen. Incidentally, the facelift has not (yet) been implemented on the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which positions Alfa Romeo a bit as a model in itself. We will therefore not consider the ‘Q’ any further.

Engines Alfa Romeo Giulia facelift

With the facelift, the range of engines has been considerably reduced. There is only a choice of two, or one actually. Remarkably enough, the price list contains a diesel and a petrol engine, while you can only choose the latter in the configurator. The diesel is a 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder with 154 kW (210 hp) and 470 Nm of torque. The petrol engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with turbo and 206 kW (280 hp) and 400 Nm. That is also the fastest variant, with a 0-100 time of just 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h. An eight-speed automatic is standard, manual shifting is no longer available.

Prices and versions Alfa Romeo Giulia facelift

The renewed Alfa Romeo Giulia is available from 65,000 euros for the petrol version. The diesel is 1,500 euros more in the price list. The diesel is only available as Ti and Veloce, for the petrol version there is also a choice of Sprint and Competizione, which complement the range at the bottom and top respectively.

A selection of the standard equipment: 18-inch alloy, full LED matrix headlights, aluminum sports pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever, ten-way adjustable front seats, complete infotainment and the assistance systems you expect in a modern car.

Which Giulia will it be?

As mentioned, the configurator only lets us choose the petrol engine. Fine, we were planning anyway. The further choice of model no longer makes any difference to performance, but we still go for the Veloce. It appeals to us more with its sportier decoration, without losing the main prize for the equally fast Competizione. The Veloce is available from 72,000 euros, the Competizione from 76,000 euros. We prefer to spend that price difference on some options.

Exterior decoration

Whichever version you choose, the standard color is Alfa Romeo red. Look, this is how Alfa Romeo counters the gray fleet on the street. Another color costs at least 495 euros extra and for that amount you get your Giulia in white. Bright blue, dark gray and black are available for 1,195 euros. For no less than 2,995 euros extra, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is painted in an even more intense red. We fall for it. The Veloce does not offer wheel choices, but we will have the brake calipers executed in red for 395 euros.

Interior decoration

On to the interior. As a free option, the black leather upholstery can be exchanged for red. That turns us very red, we stick to black.

Package and individual options

The Harman Kardon Beautiful Sound Pack at 2,200 euros includes, in addition to that high-quality audio system, some extra leather trim. We tick. The package with additional driving assistants for 1,495 euros is not necessary from us. Almost everything has already been ticked for separate options with the Veloca. We will leave the panoramic roof for 1,695 euros this time, but we will tick the alarm system for 500 euros.

In terms of decoration, we tick the carbon bumper grilles (552 euros), aluminum fuel cap (110 euros), sports pedals (170 euros), illuminated door sill (663 euros) and LED door lighting (brand image projected on the ground, 150 euros), the carbon mirror covers (864 euros) or rear spoilers (abs for 326 euros or carbon for 1,146 euros) are not.
