Why you could get car sick in the new Kia EV9

One of the most important tips against motion sickness is not to read or play games, but to look at a point far in front of the car. So in the direction of travel. And that is not always possible on the second row of seats in the new Kia EV9. More on that later…

The Kia EV9 is a large six- or seven-seater with an electric powertrain. It looks wonderfully like two drops of water on the Kia Concept EV9, which the brand unveiled in November 2021.

Electric Kia EV9 with sturdy Tonka design

That means that there is a sturdy SUV with a distinct Tonka design. It looks sleek and clean, with striking headlights and taillights, and just a hint of Kia’s so-called Tiger Nose grille.

Because yes, the EV9 is electric, so a large air vent at the front is not necessary. Kia does not yet say exactly which technology is hidden under the body, but we do know that the EV9 is on the well-known E-GMP platform.

Kia EV6 GT: the best electric car of the moment?

Same platform as Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Kia EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 also use this. They have an 800 Volt on-board system, which enables super fast charging (the EV gets 240 kW on a fast charger).

The EV9 will also have that technology on board. The power of the electric motors and the electric range remains a guess for the time being. Kia will release all information later this month.

Third row of seats with room for taller people

We don’t know how long the SUV is, but we’re guessing at about 5 meters, since the interior offers space for three rows of seats. According to Kia, the EV9 has a long wheelbase and a completely flat floor, which means that there is a lot of space for the passengers.

Kia claims that the third row of seats is not only for children and small adults, but also suitable for taller people. The EV9 can be ordered with six or seven seats.

What is the Hyundai Ioniq 6 streamlined, huh?

The seats in the first and second rows can be reclined during charging. Cup holders and mobile phone charging points are even available for third row passengers.

In the second row, the seats can be rotated 180 degrees, allowing the people in the back to face each other. Very cozy, but if you are sensitive to motion sickness, we would keep the seats in the direction of travel.

Dashboard consists of three digital screens

The dashboard consists of two 12.3-inch screens with a third, smaller display in between. According to Kia, there are haptic keys under the screens for operating the air conditioning and the multimedia system. So no physical buttons. Shame.
